Update to our Crashplan Post

September 5, 2017

We noted recently that Crashplan has announced they are discontinuing their home backup offerings and will be focusing on business users. The business plans start at $10 a month p[er device, which is quite a cost increase.

After doing a lot of research into this, we are not recommending users switch to alternative services. Crashplan is still the only backup service we are currently aware of that stores your old files indefinitely, which is very important for a backup. If you were using Backblaze and accidentally delete a file and don't discover it for 30 days, you would be unable to recover the file. At this time, we're recommending that users who want to have an online backup pony up the extra cash and pay for Crashplan's small business plan. If new services are available in the future we'll be sure to mention them here.
